Q1: Why is the top of the stone left rough?
A1: It is deliberate. The block is finished smooth on all four faces and then the crest is left in a broken, chiselled state, so the piece keeps a raw edge where the fabric shade meets it. It is the one detail that stops an otherwise very tailored lamp from looking purely industrial, and no two crests break the same way.
Q2: What is the shade made of?
A2: An off-white fabric drum tapering slightly towards the top, on a metal frame. It diffuses the light softly downwards and upwards while the alabaster body picks up a warm halo from the base of the shade. The fabric is a separate part, so it can be replaced later without touching the rest of the lamp.
Q3: What are the two brass chains hanging under the shade?
A3: They are decorative. The pair of chains is finished to match the plinth and stem and is part of the look of this design, but they do not operate the lamp and are not wired to anything. The lamp is switched by a push-button on the cord, so there is nothing to pull and no chain mechanism to wear out.
Q4: Can it be dimmed?
A4: Yes, if you order it that way. Each lamp in the range is produced either with a plain push-button switch or with a dimmer switch, and you tell us which when the order is placed. A dimmer build has to be used with dimmable E26/E27 bulbs, otherwise you will get flicker or a very narrow dimming range.
