A1: Yes. The shade is a straight-sided alabaster tube left open at the top, so light goes up as a clean column as well as glowing through the walls. Looking down into it you see the inside face of the material lit from below, which is a different reading from the outside — warmer, with the markings much more pronounced.
Q2: What is the base made of?
A2: A matt black metal disc with a short black stem that lifts the cylinder just clear of the table. The contrast is the point of the design: the dark base almost disappears against a dark surface, leaving the lit shade apparently floating. It also keeps the switch and the cord exit away from the stone.

A3: One E27 screw socket rated Max 40W, bulbs not supplied. Because the top is open, a bare bulb would be visible from directly above, so a frosted or opal 6-8W LED at 2700-3000K is the right choice rather than a clear filament lamp. Keep it under the 40W rating to protect the material.
