Q1: What am I actually looking at?
A1: Two spheres, one inside the other. The outer one is smoke grey glass with a large elliptical opening cut into its upper face; the inner one is a smaller alabaster ball that carries the light and sits low and slightly forward, so it shows through the opening and glows more faintly through the tinted glass around it.
Q2: Does the smoke glass make it dim?
A2: It softens it rather than dimming it. The lit ball is visible directly through the cut opening at full strength, while the rest of the light is filtered by the tint into a low grey-amber haze inside the outer sphere. The effect is closest to a lamp lit inside a dark room — concentrated, with a soft surround.
Q3: What bulb does it take?
A3: One G9 capsule socket rated Max 40W, bulbs not supplied. A 3-5W G9 LED at 2700-3000K is the right choice; the socket sits inside the alabaster ball so the lamp itself is never seen. Avoid a cool white capsule, which turns the smoke glass a flat grey instead of a warm brown.
Q4: Can I have a dimmer switch?
A4: Yes. As with every lamp in this batch, the switch is a choice at the point of order — a plain push-button, or a dimmer switch. The dimmer build has to be paired with dimmable G9 bulbs. Because a G9 lamp is a standard replaceable part, you keep full control of both the colour and the dimming by choosing the bulb.

A6: Lift the lamp by the alabaster base, never by the glass sphere, and never by the cut edge of the opening. Clean the glass with a soft dry cloth or a very lightly dampened one; keep any moisture off the alabaster parts and keep solvents and abrasives away from both materials.
