Q1: What shape is the shade?
A1: A short, wide barrel — straight-sided with a gently rounded shoulder at the top, closed where it meets the brass collar and completely open underneath. Because it is only Dia 17cm across and 30cm tall including the stem, it stays in scale beside a bed or above a small island rather than dominating them.
Q2: How does it light a room?
A2: Two ways at once. The open base sends a clear column of light straight down onto the surface below, which is what makes it usable for reading, while the alabaster wall itself glows at a much lower level and lifts the surrounding area. There is no diffuser under the lamp, so aim it where you want the light.
Q3: What bulb do I need?
A3: One E26/E27 screw base, bulbs not included, rated Max 40W. A 4-6W E27 LED at 2700-3000K is the usual choice. Because the base is open, pick a bulb you are happy to see — an opal or globe LED looks considerably better from below than a bare filament stick or a plastic-collared lamp.
Q4: Is it dimmable?
A4: Not as supplied — it is built for a plain wall switch. If you want dimming, fit dimmable E26/E27 LED bulbs and pair them with a compatible wall dimmer; tell us at order stage and we will confirm the socket and wiring are suited to the control gear you are using on that circuit.
Q5: How is the cord adjusted?
A5: A black fabric-braided cord runs from a brass canopy of about Dia 10cm and is cut to length by the electrician on site, so you can set any drop your ceiling allows. Over a nightstand, aim for roughly 40-55cm above the surface; over an island, 75-85cm above the worktop.
Q6: Will the stone look exactly like the photograph?
A6: The colour and translucency will, the figuring will not. Every shade is cut from a different part of the batch, so the soft grey and honey banding shifts from piece to piece. If you are ordering several for one room, say so and we will select them from the same run to keep them close.
